Popular skit maker and filmmaker Folagade Banks, popularly known for his Mama Deola character, has announced a ₦3 million giveaway and a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max to support aspiring and upcoming content creators.
Sharing his inspiring journey, Folagade revealed that just five to six years ago, he was on the verge of giving up after repeatedly attending auditions without getting movie roles.
According to him, he often travelled seven to eight hours from school to movie locations, hoping for an opportunity that never came.
“About five to six years ago, I was just that boy who was trying to create content. I was at the verge of giving up because I would go to auditions upon auditions to get a movie role.”
He recalled shooting videos with a broken phone, borrowing friends' iPhones and even using other people's apartments as filming locations.
“I remember then I would shoot with my old phone, the broken phone. I would go to my friend's house to borrow his iPhone. I used to borrow people's apartments to shoot content.”
Folagade said he spent nearly three years creating content with little support, no engagement and almost no audience.
“In total, silence. Nobody was applauding me. We had zero engagement. No followers.”
He said everything changed after he created the Mama Deola character, which transformed his career and eventually led him to produce "A Mama Deola Wedding Story," described as Africa's first KAVA Original movie.
Grateful for how far he has come, the content creator said he now wants to help others who are facing similar struggles.
As part of the initiative, three winners will receive:
First Prize: ₦1 million and a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max
Second Prize: ₦1 million and 1TB of data on any network of the winner's choice
Third Prize: ₦1 million
To participate, contestants are expected to create a video explaining what ₦1 million and an iPhone 17 Pro Max would do for their content creation journey and how Folagade Banks' rise from a struggling content creator to producing "A Mama Deola Wedding Story" has inspired them.
Participants must tag @folagade_banks and use the hashtags #AMamaDeolaWeddingStory and #AMDWS across their social media posts.
Folagade also revealed that the winners will receive VIP invitations to the premiere of "A Mama Deola Wedding Story," where they will have the opportunity to network with industry professionals and fellow creatives.
